Free Hackable Hardware + Hardware Pool Discussion
We have received a generous grant from Digi International who makes all sorts of really cool IoT hardware products. http://www.digi.com/products/xbee-rf-solutions
We will also likely be able to source a bunch of other random hardware, as we have done in the past. We were thinking this year that some of that hardware could be granted out at the beginning of the hackathon, to team leaders who wish to use it to accomplish their projects. We also would like to throw some of this hardware into the, "random team pool," for them to use.
Another thing is that sometimes people have old stuff that they don't use and maybe want to trade or get rid of...so perhaps we could have a sort of, "hardware swap pool," or just a "community give-away pool," for anyone who wants to get rid of old stuff. IoTFuse can create tax-deductable charitable receipts for those who want to give away hardware.
This discussion is about hardware give-aways...what are you looking for? What would you like to see? What vendors should we approach? What would you like to give or trade?

It'd be handy to have ESP8266's on hand.

Hi Eric...good thinking. I think we could just buy a bunch of those. How many do you think we should get?

ummm...not sure on quantity, but I'd recommend getting the USB version like this Adafruit Feather over the barebones ESP8266. https://www.adafruit.com/product/2821
